City Of San Diego Water Heater Codes:

We work very closely with the City of San Diego to make sure that all the work we do is up to the current building code. Most recently, we asked the city inspector this question: Do you require a drain pan to be installed underneath a water heater if the unit is located in Garage/Basement/Outside Closet/Ground Floor Closet/Attic or 2nd floor closet? We received this answer: Yes, it is required in all furred locations. A “furred” location is where thin strips of wood or other material have been used to level or raise surfaces of another material to prevent dampness, to make space for insulation, or to level and resurface ceilings or walls. A second floor closet would be considered a furred location and an attic would definitely be considered a furred location. San Diego Water Heater Repair & Installation

San Diego is one of the biggest cities in California and with its beaches and warm, temperate climate, it is a perfect place to visit or live. Of course, it’s hard not to like San Diego when it’s got world-renowned attractions like Sea World and the San Diego Zoo. For a company like ours, the diverse nature of the different homes in San Diego keep us busy replacing water heaters and recommending products to meet each unique household.

In the southern part of the city, the homes range from 40-50 years old up to homes that were built in the past two years. The average size of water heaters in the homes in this area are 40 and 50 gallon capacity type. In the northeast part of town, the homes usually have the larger 50 gallon water heaters. In most of the condos you will find they have the slightly smaller 40 gallon water heaters. The downtown area is predominantly businesses. These office buildings will usually have 80 or 100 gallon electric water heaters, but that’s not going to be a concern for the average person looking to move there.

The Mission Hills district is where much older housing stock is and for different reasons these homes tend to have smaller water heaters. Many of these water heaters are not up to the current plumbing code since they have been installed for so long and in some cases they have been put in odd locations. Water Heater Only, Inc technicians are familiar with each of these areas and the different installation requirements for making sure water heaters are up to code and installed properly. Feel free to contact us 24 hours a day and we are happy to schedule a technician to come out and give you a diagnosis and options about your water heater. With over 56 years of experience and some of the lowest pricing there is no reason not to at least call and speak with one of our water heater experts (619) 222-3814.
